Ethiopia Rise Up is a civic coalition calling for peace, justice, human dignity, religious freedom, democratic rights, and accountability in Ethiopia. The order of the issues below reflects the current status and ongoing impact of conflicts and humanitarian crises affecting communities across Ethiopia.

The ongoing conflict in the Amhara region has resulted in civilian casualties, arbitrary detentions, drone strikes, communication blackouts, and growing humanitarian suffering, intensifying calls for peace, justice, and accountability.
Tigray Conflict
The devastating conflict in Tigray resulted in massive civilian suffering, widespread displacement, famine conditions, and grave human rights violations that shocked the world.
Afar Conflict
Communities in the Afar region have endured violence, displacement, economic disruption, and humanitarian hardship as conflict spread across northern Ethiopia.

Media Restrictions & Political Repression
Journalists, activists, opposition figures, and civic voices have faced arrests, intimidation, internet shutdowns, and restrictions on free expression during periods of political unrest and conflict.
Humanitarian Crisis
Millions of Ethiopians across multiple regions have experienced displacement, food insecurity, loss of livelihoods, and limited access to humanitarian assistance due to prolonged instability and conflict.
Arbitrary Detentions
States of emergency and security crackdowns have led to reports of mass detentions, prolonged imprisonment without due process, and targeting of civilians based on political identity, ethnicity, or activism.
Unity Through Peaceful Action
Inspired by the spirit of unity reflected in Teddy Afro’s Etorika, the coalition calls on Ethiopians everywhere to rise peacefully, reject division, and work toward national healing, reconciliation, and lasting peace.
